{"id":2676,"date":"2018-04-27T06:43:35","date_gmt":"2018-04-27T06:43:35","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/lynxee.consulting\/?p=2676\/"},"modified":"2023-01-26T14:58:53","modified_gmt":"2023-01-26T14:58:53","slug":"europe-publication-of-endocrine-disruptors-criteria","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/lynxee.consulting\/en\/europe-publication-of-endocrine-disruptors-criteria\/","title":{"rendered":"EUROPE: Publication of Endocrine disruptors criteria"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">On 20 April 2018 was published the Commission <\/span><b>Regulation (EU) 2018\/605 setting out the scientific criteria<\/b> <b>to identify<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> the substances used in plant protection which are <\/span><b>endocrine disruptors<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> (EDs).<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">After the rejection of the initial regulation project by the European Parliament in October 2017, the new project taking into consideration the claims of the European Parliament (<\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">i.e.<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> the deletion of the exemption for substances that have an \u2018intended endocrine mode of action\u2019), was voted at the PAFF meeting in December 2017.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">According to the Regulation, an active substance, safener or synergist is considered as ED if (i) it shows an adverse effect in an intact organism or its progeny, (ii) it alters the function(s) of the endocrine system, and (iii) the adverse effect is a consequence of the endocrine mode of action.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The new criteria will <\/span><b>apply from 20 October 2018<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> onwards, including the substances for which an assessment or a re-evaluation is ongoing. A feedback regarding the experience gained from the application of these criteria will be presented by the Commission by 20 October 2025.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">As a reminder, very similar criteria will apply to biocide substances from 7 June 2018. The European Union is now the first worldwide to have strict legally binding criteria to identify EDs.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Besides, the draft <\/span><b>technical guidance document for identifying EDs<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> of ECHA and EFSA is currently being updated with the new criteria set.
