26 September 2022EFSA, in collaboration with ECHA’s Biocides Unit, has launched a public consultation from 01 September 2022 to 27 October 2022 on a guidance document on the impact of water treatment processes on residues of active substances or their metabolites in water abstracted for the production of drinking water.
The project presents approaches to assess exposure to residues, resulting from the use of plant protection or biocides products, and transformation products formed during the surface and groundwater treatment processes commonly used in the European Union. Approaches for assessing the hazards and risks to human health and domesticated animals through the consumption of drinking water are also described. Furthermore, the document details existing practices in Europe to minimise residues in drinking water sources and provides a recommendation on the use of in-vitro water quality monitoring methods.
Interested parties are invited to submit comments on the draft document via the dedicated consultation pages. Additional data or files to support the comments may be submitted using the relevant function in the digital form.
