LYNXEE: Appointment of Léa Thuillier as Efficacy Expert
30 September 2023FRANCE: Neonicotinoids – Authorised Succeeding Crops after 2021 and 2022 Campaigns
16 October 2023Prosulfocarb is an herbicidal active substance widely used in France. Following the analysis of reports concerning the presence of residues of prosulfocarb ( in untreated crops, and peaks of concentration of this active substance in air, Anses has updated the risk assessment for residents and bystanders. This update was performed in the context of referral from the ministry of agriculture. The new risk assessment took into account the most recent methodological developments regarding exposure of residents and bystanders during applications of plant protection products.
Anses cannot exclude, for dermal exposure, the exceeding of safety thresholds for children at less than 10 metres away from the crop, during the application of a prosulfocarb-based product.
Consequently, Anses has decided to impose new conditions for the use of these products.
- Decrease of the maximum authorised applications rates, by at least 40%.
- Mandatory use of nozzles allowing a 90% spray drift reduction and respect of a safety distance of at least 10 metres ; or, failing that, respect of a safety distance of 20 metres.
Approval certs of reference products and resale products were amended on October 2, 2023 but these new conditions of use will apply from November 1, 2023.
In addition, by June 30, 2024, authorization holders of prosulfocarb-based products will have to submit to Anses data relating to the impact of these new conditions of use on the reduction of exposure of residents. Without convincing demonstration, product authorizations will be withdrawn without any delay.
As a reminder, the approval of prosulfocarb at European level was recently extended until January 31, 2027.
