FRANCE: 2026 Updated list of PPPs affected by the minimum safety distance of 20 metres

EFSA has launched a public consultation, open until 3 November 2026, on a draft protocol for the evaluation of emergency authorisation applications submitted under Article 53 of Regulation (EC) No 1107/2009. This document covers herbicides, soil fumigants, nematicides, and other plant protection products (PPPs) not covered by previous protocols.
This project is very similar to the protocol for insecticides and acaricides, as well as the one for fungicides and bactericides, published in early 2026. For more details on the objectives and content of the protocols, we invite you to consult our previous articles.
Furthermore, a European inventory of alternative solutions (covering some of the most frequently encountered weed species, nematodes, rodents and terrestrial gastropods) has been integrated into the protocol to serve as a reference for Member States.
In addition to the draft protocol, which is open for comments during the public consultation phase, EFSA has also provided three emergency authorisation test cases, accompanied by a literature review on available alternative methods.
