31 January 2024Following the Commission’s proposal for a revision of the Regulation 1272/2008 (for more details, see our previous article), the European Parliament and the Council have reached a provisional agreement on the revision of the regulation on classification, labelling and packaging of hazardous chemicals (CLP).
The new measures aim to :
- protect consumers, workers, and the environment,
- accelerate the identification of hazardous substances and mixtures at EU level,
- improve communication about hazardous chemicals including for chemicals sold online,
- lays down rules on refill sales,
- provide more flexibility on how to use the labels,
- improve the functioning of the EU market.
The new CLP Regulation must now be formally adopted by the European Parliament and the Council. It will enter into force 20 days after its publication in the Official Journal of the EU.
