As a reminder, the Order of 15 January 2021 amending the Order of 4 May 2017 on the marketing and use of plant protection products and their adjuvants banned the use of these products (excluding biocontrol products, low-risk products or products authorised for organic farming) in all sport grounds and racecourses from 1 January 2025.
The Order of 10 January 2025 sets out the list of uses of plant protection products for which no alternative technical solution can provide the quality required for official competitions in sports facilities. 6 uses are concerned for the treatment of grass turf (weed control, diseases, pests). For these uses, plant protection products benefit from an exemption and are still allowed to be used.
By 31 July 2025 at the latest, the ministry in charge of sport will have to establish the list of facilities covered by the exemption. By the same date, the representatives of the owners of the grounds covered by this exemption must draw up a roadmap for stopping the use of plant protection products (excluding biocontrol products, low-risk products or products authorised for organic farming).
The order of 10 January 2025 comes into force on 1 January 2025 for a period of 18 months, which may be extended if no technical alternative is found.
