EUROPE – EFSA: Draft statement on the general framework for assessing indirect effects of Plant Protection Products on biodiversity
23 June 2026Following the publication in late May of several regulatory texts governing the use of drones for the application of plant protection products under specific conditions, two new texts were published in the French Ministry of Agriculture’s official bulletin at the beginning of June.
The Order of May 19, 2026, specifies the list of plant protection products authorized for application by unmanned aircraft, in accordance with the provisions set out in B of I bis or I ter of Article L. 253-8 of the Rural and Maritime Fisheries Code. This list is based on the Anses (French Agency for Food, Environmental and Occupational Health & Safety) opinion dated April 30, 2026. These products include biocontrol plant protection products mentioned in Article L. 253-6 and appearing on the list mentioned in IV of Article L. 253-7, products authorized for organic farming, and low-risk products within the meaning of Article 47 of Regulation (EC) No 1107/2009.
Service Note DGAL/SAS/2026-315 (June 3, 2026)
Service Note DGAL/SAS/2026-315 establishes, in light of available scientific knowledge, the list of devices constituting the best available technology to reduce spray drift when applications are carried out by drone. It also specifies the procedure for registering new equipment on this list. To date, only drift-reducing nozzles listed in the Ministry of Agriculture’s official bulletin for the treatment of low-growing crops are included (Annex 1, Point 1). Service Note DGAL/SDSPV/2025-694 is the most recent document updating the list of plant protection product application equipment equipped with drift-reducing technology.
