FRANCE: Update 2025 of the List of Spray Drift Reduction Equipment
20 October 2025The European Commission has published on 25 November 2025 an update of the guidance document SANTE/11312/2021 on analytical quality control and method validation procedures for pesticide residues analysis in food and feed. This 2026 version updates the second version in force since 01 January 2024.
Main changes with respect to the previous version are:
- In Appendix A:
- A criterion to verify that sub sampling variability is acceptable has been introduced in under “Quantitative analysis”. Sample comminution should ensure sufficient homogeneity to keep sub-sampling variability within acceptable limits.
- Validation requirements have been introduced for cases where background levels may be present in procedural blanks or blank samples. Three different situations are exemplified.
- A remark/note has been added stating that, when using calibration procedures that correct for analyte losses during extraction/cleanup, absolute recovery shall be verified by a recovery experiment using matrix-matched calibration.
- The section “Extension of the scope of the method: new matrices” has been rewritten to clarify the verification criteria for new matrices within the same commodity group.
- Paragraphs D8 in Footnote 2 of Table 3, alternative options for verifying identity have been introduced in cases where identification criteria cannot be met (using a second chromatographic separation method or another MS technique or different instrumental settings).
- In Appendix C, an example of the calculation of the combined measurement uncertainty (MU) for complex residue definitions has been included.
Furthermore, the legal context has been updated, editorial improvements have been made and obvious errors have been corrected throughout the document.
The new version of the guidance will come into force on 01 January 2026.
